Good News!

Seems like forever since we've posted! Bryan and I had a GREAT night at Great Aunt Mary's house last night, slept great, good food, and just feel like new people. We got to the hospital this morning around 10:30, and already have had loving visitors! Great Aunts/Uncles Alice and Bob and Mary and Al. And yes, Mary had her camera out and already ws snapping away. Connor was WIDE awake for all his visitors today, it was great! Then came honorary aunts Sarah and Ang. Connor was so excited to meet all of these people :)

Now, to the news. The doctor came and gave us the news of the biopsy. The doctor's are SO good at explaining everything to us, but I must say, when I listen to them, I just listen, understand and wait for the 'he's going to be fine' at the end. So, this is where my mom comes in :) Here's the diagnosis after she heard it from the Doctor:

Dr. Hoekstra spoke to us about the biopsy results today. The samples were negative for ganglion cells (so there are no nerve cells in part of the large intestine). This confirms the diagnosis of Hirschsprung’s disease and Connor will require surgery. The GREAT NEWS is that the affected bowel is in the sigmoid colon area (a very low section of the large intestine) and Dr. Hoekstra is optimistic that the surgeons will be able to do the pull-through surgery which doesn’t require the temporary colostomy : )) There’s still no way of knowing for SURE how much bowel is affected but this is determined in surgery with instant biopsies. If all goes well and they can do the pull-through procedure, it’s possible that Connor could come home in less than 1 week!! Surgery is planned for tomorrow, but schedule is not yet finalized. So we’ll just keep praying that everything happens in surgery tomorrow like Dr. Hoekstra thought it could!!

Alright, isn't that good news! I just feel a big sense of relief. We know what's going on for sure, we know our options, we're optimistic about the pull through and now we just need to wait until we know when his surgery will be.

So, pray for surgery tomorrow and pray for the pull through! We are WAY behind on pictures, and Bryan is getting REALLY mad at me that I'm not posting this ASAP (Ang and Sarah are still here, so it's difficult to multi-task), so, I will do another post here shortly with all the pictures.

Pray :)

Dear Bodes -- Such good news! I keep walking over to the computer and was so glad to see the results of the biopsies - Connor will come through this with ease and flying colors! So now we'll turn our thoughts and prayers onto tomorrow and have an easy surgery where Connor can go home ASAP.

Love you all,
Rita & crew

Hi Christy, Brian and Connor!
What a relief to know the initial diagnosis was correct and now you can proceed with surgery and all come home! The pictures are great! Connor is adorable!

Glad to hear your news and the grace with which you are facing it! You'll soon have your little one home and all the "normal" stuff of having a new baby will seem like a "piece of cake" compared to what you've had to do so far! Guess you really WILL have some great stories to tell Connor about him being a "pain in the _ _ _" someday...and you won't be embellishing at all!!! LOL!!

Love you all and praying for a good surgery/good outcome tomorrow!
